Prior to traveling so much, learning new languages other than the ones used in my city was never a goal.
But once I did start traveling, I saw the power in the knowledge of the essential words and once I saw how I was able to make connections with locals through my (not always successful) effort in learning their language, I was hooked!
I once read that once you learn one language, it's 'easy' to learn another language. This is true in my case, because I am trying to learn German and while the words are more similar to English the grammar is very similar to French. Hopefully, I will be able to translate all of this in German in a few years time from now :)
